“Smoke rises as …” is a long-exposure image composed of 100 overlapping AI-generated pictures. The starting point is a photograph from a 2022 newspaper article about the war in Ukraine. The caption reads: “Smoke rises as Ukrainian sappers destroy Russian anti-tank mines with a controlled explosion.” The image shows a cloud of smoke behind trees.
This caption served as the prompt input for an image-generating AI, which produced 100 pictures. Combined into an animation, they were photographically condensed into a long exposure.
